Cookies and on-device storage

The short version: this site loads no third-party scripts, sets no advertising or analytics cookies, and does not track you across sites.

Updated 2026-08-23

1. Our approach

This site is built so that it needs your consent for almost nothing. Fonts, styles, icons and scripts are all served from our own domain. The page makes no request to Google Fonts, a CDN, an ad network, social buttons or external analytics — so your IP address does not reach a third party simply because you opened the page.

That is a deliberate choice. Loading fonts from an external server hands the visitor's IP address to the owner of that server before any interaction takes place, and a Munich court found exactly that practice to infringe the GDPR (LG München I, case 3 O 17493/20).

2. Legal basis

Storing information on, and gaining access to information stored in, a user's terminal equipment is governed by Directive 2002/58/EC and, in Poland, by the Electronic Communications Law (Prawo komunikacji elektronicznej). No consent is needed for what is strictly necessary to provide the service you asked for. Everything else requires consent that is freely given, specific, informed and unambiguous (arts. 4(11) and 7 GDPR).

3. Exactly what is stored

Here is the complete list. All of it is localStorage in your browser rather than cookies: these entries are never sent to a server and never leave your device.

NameTypeCategoryRetentionPurpose
vikno.consentlocalStorageStrictly necessary365 daysStores your choice about optional technologies so the question is not asked again on every page. Without this record the banner would reappear indefinitely.
vikno.themelocalStorageStrictly necessary365 daysRemembers whether you chose the light or dark theme. Written only after you press the toggle.

4. Analytics

As at the last update of this page, no analytics is installed. No visitor counter, no pixel, not one third-party request.

The consent mechanism is nonetheless built and working. If analytics is ever added, it will not load until you press “Accept” — and this page will be updated before it goes live.

5. Changing or withdrawing your choice

Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it, which art. 7(3) GDPR requires outright. The button below opens the same settings as the banner on a first visit.

6. Browser settings

Independently of our banner, you can clear stored data through your browser — usually under “Settings → Privacy → Site data”. Deleting the consent record makes the banner appear again.

Strictly necessary technologies cannot be switched off — the page does not work without them. Everything else is off by default.

Strictly necessary Remember your theme choice and this consent. Stored only in your browser and never sent anywhere.
Analytics Anonymous visit statistics, so we can tell which pages are useful. Not installed at present — the switch is here for the future.
